Date Posted: 5/18/2010

4 boys from the 92 Blast Blue B team and 1 girl from the 92 Blast Blue G look forward to collegiate play in the fall 2010 season. Keith Cooper of St. Stephens High has signed with Catawba College. Drake Fisher has signed with Johns Hopkins. Addison Day and Michael O’Brien have signed with Lees-McRae.  Erica Detweiler has signed with Eastern Mennonite University.

Cooper is son of Don and Mary Cooper of Hickory and attends St. Stephens High. Cooper was 2009 Defensive Player of the Year for Northwestern Conference soccer in addition to 2009 Special Teams Player of the Year for football. Cooper was also 2009 MVP for Saint, All-Conference and All-Region.

Day is the son of Lynn and Mike Noble of Hickory and Shelton Day of Charlotte and also attends St. Stephens. Day was All-Conference, All-Region for 2008/2009 and Co-MVP for Saint in 2008.

Fisher is the son of Carol Trivette and Glenn Fisher of Hickory and attends Hickory High. Fisher was All-Conference, All-Region for 2008/2009, All-State and Offensive Player of the Year for the Northwestern Conference in 2009 .

O’Brien is the son of Robert and Susan O’Brien of Asheville and attends TC Robeson High. In addition to All-Conference for several years and All-Region for 2009, he was a member of the 1992 North Carolina ODP and Region 3 teams , making it to the National Championship Final 4 with his ODP team.

All four boys competed on the West Team last summer for the State Games of NC, capturing the gold medal for the West.
Coached by Mark Powers, ’92 Blast Blue has participated in the NCYSA Premier Division via Catawba Valley Youth Soccer Association for four years. They have been ranked 7th in the state for the past two years and just concluded NCYSA State Cup competition to finish their final spring season. “Hopefully our seniors will walk away from club soccer knowing they played a crucial role on not only the most successful team from this club but a top-10 team in the state”, said Powers. Speaking to the team as a whole, Powers added, “its been a real joy to watch them grow as a soccer player and mature into young men."
